Default Need Parts!

Hey all,

I have a 1984 Dodge Ram van B250 w/a 318 and I'm looking for what I believe are emission parts. It's the tube assembly that connects to the smog/air pump. Some manuals list it asan upstream tube. It goes from thr rear mainfold to the pump. I'm just slowly trying to get this baby fully functional. It runs, its just that the air check valve that connects to to pump has totally rusted off. This is not a screw on valve and I have to replace the whole tube assembly. If you got a lead please let me know.

Thanks,
Andy

If you are not in California, is there a particular reason you feel you HAVE to replace this equipment?

The first step in any state emissions test is to visually inspect that all emission control systems are installed and intact. He could fail inspection if the part is seen as damaged. As far as the tube goes, it's most likely a dealer item.

Well, It may be the first step that is skipped most places. I was told by one place, that they only cared if it worked IF IT WAS THERE.It is a 24 year old truck, it will only have to meet the emissions for the year it was made, and it has been my experience that most places wont even blow test it. This is of course in NY. I have no idea if other states are as **** as this one, and I thought only Cali was worse. Id see if they will pass it with out the part before worrying about replacing it. If you still have the air pump in, take it out and see if anyone notices. My guess is unless you get an old timer, noone will notice it is missing. Im not adviseing you to break the law you can make that decision on your own, but that has been my past experience.

If you insist on replacing the part, then I'd look for it in a yard before going to a dealer.
you should be able to pull it from an 81-85 truck or van with a 318, just make sure the one you get isnt plugged. The pipe goes from the rear of both exaust manafolds. to the air pump check valve and then to the air pump.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. First, I guess I don't have to replace these parts. I just wanted to get everything up and running proper. I live in New Mexico and as far as I know, there are no inspections in this state. Especially up here in the mountains. I just didn't know if this somehow affected the running engine. It probably doesn't. Anyway, a local mech. was able to locate this part down in ABQ and heinstalled it while it was in his shop. Next question: If I had removed the smog pump entirely, how would I have closed off the air check valve? Just leave it hanging? Is there a cover for where the tubes connect tot the manifold?
