Default 1996 Ram Van Gearbox Selector Seal

Hi all,

I am new to this forum and hope someone can give me some advice.

I have a 1996 B2500 Ram Van with an auto gearbox and it appears that the gear selector oil seal
has probably gone brittle as I have lost about a litre of oil and there is a constant drip coming from
this area.

I would like to know if the seal can be changed with the gearbox in situ, from the outside of the
gearbox or would I have to drop the remaining oil and the oil pan to gain access to the inside of
the gearbox. I am not even sure if there is any access to the selector shaft from inside of the
gearbox.

If there is somebody who has changed a gearbox selector oil seal, I would like to hear from them
together with thesteps which were taken.

Thanks, tasman2706.

The seal is external, you do not need to open the tranny to replace it.

Hi alloro,

Thanks for the information. I have managed to fit a new seal.
Just got to test it now to see if it leaks, hopefully not.
