Default 1990 B150 Parts for a rebuild

hello every,

I have a 90 b150 which has about 240k. It runs great but i am thinking ofdoing a rebuild so i can take it on longer trips and in case i need to tow something. What are the main parts that should be replace? Where do I get them?

I've been looking at rebuild kits, and you can get several types, ranging from gaskets only, up to complete kits that have pistons and a cam.

I would say a minimum would be:
Piston Rings
Rod Bearings
Main Bearings
Cam Bearings
Oil pump
Water pump
(Forgot if FI or Carb) - Either cleaned Injectors or a Reman. Carb (or a carb-kit to rebuild yourself if you want).
Then on the heads -- you may want to check locally at machine shops, but at least new valve seals, check springs, some may need replacing.

This leaves you with the original pistons, crank and cam. You should get a micrometer to measure your thicknesses of the Mains and Rod Connections, and cam. If worn, or insconsistent, they'll need be ground (order bearings after making the decision).

Also check cylinder walls, if you have a tall lip at the top, you may need to have a shop mill 10 thousandths or so, but I think you can still use the pistons with oversize rings. Even if all is well, you have to hone it, though.

I would think after 240K you may need some mill work on the crank or cylinders, though.

There's some good books on rebuilding Dodge V8s available at auto parts stores or online.

Be sure to send us a postcard and pics on your way,
Cheers,
Lee
