Default stupid question about radiator caps

O.k. this isn't on a dodge , it is on my 93 mazda mpv mini van.
My question is
Will a new radiator cap fix my overheating problem? I know It's only like 5 bucks and I'm going to replace it anyway but it is just a question I have never had resolved with any real conclusion.
I know the fan is working and it seems like water pump is working too(atleast by the haynes checks)
I replaced the thermostat already.
The radiator cap is in fairly poor condition but it seems like it is still making a seal.
I just need 1 of my freakin' vans to work.......

Your problem, not ours! [sm=laughat.gif]

Anew radiator cap will fix overheating problem only when it's excessively hot outside, say like 95+ degrees. The reason being, isthat a cooling system gets pressurized to increase the temperature boiling pointof the coolant. If the system fails to pressurize such as with a leaking radiator cap, then the boiling point is lower and so is the chance of overheating.

If your thermostat is operating properly, then the next culprit will be a corroded/plugged radiator.

Default RE: stupid question about radiator caps

flushing it out tonight and then i'm going to run it home tomarrow and see what it does b/4 I replace the water pump.

And as far as the part about it being my problem b/c it's a mazda , all I can say is it is still running.Even with very detorated valve cover gaskets that leak oil and smokes, the over heating thing , 3 out of 4 tire have only 4 instead of 5 lugnuts.
The front drivers side tire wobbles at 60mph and the drivers rear tire is one size too small. The drives side window hand crank is broken so I use duct tape tabs to raise and lower it.
Yes this car is a real beater but I see mexi's driving worse everyday.

Any takers?
Its going cheap after I sell the 96 dodge van and find a better/ reliable van.
