Default unidentified sensor

Hi, I drive a 1989, 5.2 L, 250 camperized van by Roadtrek. It's our regular vehicle, one trip to Ontario (from B.C.) and just 2-3 weekly in town trips for the rest of the year. A sensor beside the oil filter just started to leak a steady steam of water. Anyone know what it does, and if there's any issues with replacing it?
Thanks, campervan

My mysterious sensor turns out to be a block heater in, I guess, a frost plug. I've never used it and don't need it. Any suggestions on how to best fix the leak? Thanks again, jim

You could remove the sensor and screw a threaded plug into the hole (using sealant). It will probably be a standard pipe thread available at any hardware store. The other fix is to remove the sensor and freeze plug, then replace it with a freeze plug without a hole in it.
