Gas Tank Rejects normal fill up - Please advise
I've got a 95 Ram Van 2500 with 130000 miles. I'm on vacation headed back to California. Just got the fuel pump replaced in Taos. First fill up a couple hundred miles away I discover that the normal gas flow from the pump automatically shuts off after only 1/10 gal (which ain't very much gas). Can fill it only by hand on a really slow speed. Didn't do this before I got the new fuel pump, so I assume it had something to do with that job. I looked underneath and saw two hoses coming down, there's a big one and a smaller on. Small one appears to be a bit crimped. Is this small tube some kinda air vent? Does anybody have any idea what the problem could be? Really appreciate some help on this one. Thanks!
Yes the small one is a vent and it should not be crimped. If the vent isn't working well, then the air that the fuel is displacing tries to come up the filler tube. It sounds like that air flow is what is shutting down the nozzle.
That small air tube is also part of the emission recovery system too. So make sure it vents to the proper place without having vent to the outside and evaporates all the fuel in the tank.
Thanks alloro & stev, Will try to cut the hose slightly shorter and see if I can straighten it out and untwist it a bit. Will make sure it still connects to the proper place and not venting outside. Appreciate the help.
Make sure you wipe the hose clean before you cut it. You wouldn't want dirt falling into the tank and plugging up that nice new pump and filter unit.
