1985 Dodge Ram 250 Van - HVAC
[sm=americanasmiley.gif]I have a 1985 Dodge Ram 250 Custom Van. Trying to replace the Heater control panel. The old one had the tabs broken off. Able to get one off a little newer van in a Pick n Pull. Now trying to hook up the vaccum hoses and the color of the hoses are different. Anyone have diagrams or a way to tell which hoses go to which feature such as heat, defrost etc? Also, what is the best way to hook them up. I clipped the new hoses after their connectors so I have a hose, connector and rest of hose from newer van.
To connect the hoses you could just use in-line vacuum couplings available at any auto parts store.
To determine what each hose does, try applying vacuum to it. If you have the blower running it will help you to feel where the air is coming out. Once you've figured out which hoses divert the airflow to the defrosters, floor, vents, outside air door, etc., process of elimination should make the last one or two easy.
For the control, first you'll have to figure out which is the main vacuum feed. You might have to just try each connection and rotate the **** until you've found the one that will apply vacuum to all of the others as the **** is rotated. Once you got the main one, hook up vacuum to it and rotate the switch and see which outlets get the vacuum. Start with the easy ones like vent, floor, defrost and avoid the positions that combine two of them, like the one the will blow air out the vents and floor at the same time. Those positions will apply vacuum to two outlets on the control instead of just one.
