ATF+4 if you don't do any towing. ATF+3 with Lubegard if you're towing with the van.
If you're going to spend the time draining out the fluid, cleaning/replacing the screen and putting in a new filter, you may want to check the Kickdown band screw torque and the Low-reverse band as well.
1995 and newer for the 36RH, 46RH and 46RE tranny.
Kickdown band ....... Tighten to 72-in-lbs, then back off 2-7/8 turns.
Low-reverse band ... Tighten to 72-in-lbs, then back off 2 turns.
1995 and newer for the 32RH and 42RH tranny.
Kickdown band ....... Tighten to 72-in-lbs, then back off 2-1/4 turns. (not for 42RH)
Low-reverse band ... Tighten to 72-in-lbs, then back off 4 turns.
Torque specs
Automatic transmission band adjusting screw locknut ... 30-ft-lbs
Automatic transmission pan bolts ... 96-in-lbs
WARNING ... When scrapping off the old tranny gasket, don't mare the aluminum surface.
This service of fluid, screen filter and band adjustment is required maintence every 30k miles.
Although, people neglect doing this until about 80k miles when issues happen.
It's really not a hard job to do, only messy if you've never done a Ram Van before.
