96 Van $600 needs head gasket
hello to all I just bought a 1996 Dodge 1500 van witha V6today for only $600. Only problem is that is has a blown head gasket. So it's still at the guys house that I bought it from. His house is about 40 miles away from mine. It runs ok just underpowered BC of the antifreeze leaking into atleast one of the cyclinders. Anybody driven a van that far with a blow head gasket? If so did it mess up anything else. Also I haven't been able to find any write ups for a V6 full size van head gasket replacement. If anybody has anything about this please leave a link to it. Looking forward to adding to the site. Thanks
about driving it.... i think it depends on what its doing. as long as its not overheating, or dumping a lot of coolant into the oil, or vise-versa, it should be ok to drive it.
i don't have any DIY info, but get a haynes manual for the van. it will pay off somewhere along the way. when you pull the head, have it magnafluxed to check for cracks. nothing worse than putting it all back together to have to continue to leak.
congrats on a good deal.

I think you should tow it to where the head gasket work will be done. You made a good deal for your $600.Don't risk turning what can probably be a nice van into $100 of scrap metal by siezing the engine because of a bad decision.
