Hey all,

I need to get an engine hoist for installing an outboard motor and would like to get one strong enough to handle the van's engine if need be. How much does a 1989 318 w/ TBI weigh approximately?

long block is about 510 lbs
but your engine will be more
with the accessories and belt drives

 

Actually the 318 is the short block v8 the long is the 360.

The engine is a LA. Better would be to find what the shipping weight would be for a crate and add a couple hundred pounds leeway (yes I know that is a bit extra). you may look on allpar.com as they have a good section on the engines.

A long block is a complete engine, while a short block is one you get without the heads, intake, oil pan, and stuff like that. It has nothing to do with engine cubes.
