10w-30, unless you live in the desert. :-)
You only need one gasket. Your filter is probably the same for two different trannys so they just include both gaskets in order to have one less part to stock.

That is correct, there are two different pans depending on which tranny you have. I know one is the a727, I'm not sure about the other one.

I'm up in Niagara Falls, NY. During the winter the vehicle runs on 5W30 and I do see a slight improvement in fuel economy. When the temps push towards the mid-70's, I make the switch to 10W30.

If you do live further south, 10W30 is ideal. Your B2500 5.2L engine oil ports in the Magnum engine is not all that friendly to the thicker 10W40 oil.

I run 0W-30, the key to oil is a constent 212° oil temp and you wont get that the proper volume flow with 10W-30, the thicker the oil the less of it gets to where it's needed and the colder the oil stays. rememeber your thermostat keeps your engine at a constant tempreture regardless of the ambient temp outside providing your coolant system is operating properly.

Google Castrol 0W-30

Heres a good read on oil viscosity in laymens terms
