Dash Brake light is on
Dave,
The brake warning light culd be on for a couple of reasons. If the emergency brake is applied, it can trigger the lamp. Check to make sure it is fully disengaged. Pull on it with the key on to check it.
It can also come on if there is a leak in the system and the proportioning vavle is tripped. You say there is no leaks, so I'd eliminate this as a cause.
A wiring short to ground in the lamp circuit can also trigger the lamp.
The final way to trigger the lamp (and the one I suspect is your problem) is that the front brake pads have worn enough that the reservoir fluid level has dropped and allowed the low reservoir fluid level sensor to illuminate the lamp. I would check for worn brake pads/rotors in the front and misadjusted/worn rear brakes as well.
Let me know what you find out.
Jeff
Oh and BTW, the front and rear brakes use a seperate part of the master cylinder reservoir.
