Engine Swap ?
How difficult would it be to replace a 1977 360 with 3 speed auto trans with a 1996 360 FI engine with auto OD trans. The 1977 is a class C motor home on a 1 ton Sportsman chassis, The 1996 is a B-3500. Can a external fuel pump be used? How about sensors, computers, etc. Has any one done this? Is it possible? Thanks for any help.
Can it be done, yes. Will it be veryhard, yes if you do not know about computers on todays cars. Would it be worth it, depends on how long you plan on driving it.
You will need all sensors, the PCM, wiring harness for both the engine and tranny. You would also need to instal the Check Engine lamp on the dash board instrument cluster.
I am not aware of a fuel pump that can run from the frame for these engines. If you do find one it may not have a long life since part of being in the tank is to keep the pump cooler which helps it last longer.

I want to put a 1996 360 in my 1979 dodge van witch has a 4 speed manual and a slant six, I do have a computer and wiring harness form the truck the motor came out of. I think all I would need is a fuel tank from a newer (fuel injected) dodge van and install a check engine light and I should be cool right?
