engine trouble

Default engine trouble

i have a 88 dodge ram van b250 and it is taking in way to much fuel. sometimes when i press on the gas a big puff of smoke comes out of the exhaust and when i start from a stop when it is cold it i guess coughs as i speed up in first gear.

Guessing this is a carb model- tell us which engine?

But my first thought is carb so ck choke.....tune up

Also what color is the smoke? Does it have TBI or Carburetor?

it has fuel injection and the smoke is black that is why i know it is taking in too much fuel

O2 sensor or leaking injector. Is the check engine light on?

Any idea how many miles ago the timing chain was last changed?
