97 Dodge Ram headlight issue
My 2500 van hi beams work, blinkers work- regular head lights do not- when they are on, I can see a drain of power in the clockradio because it dims. Also, my blinkers on the outside work, I can hear it ticking- but the internal dash light is not working (I heard you have to tear the whole thing out to replace it).
I bought a LED light that plugs into the cigarette lighter- and it doesn't work- so I have no light on the inside. I can see the check engine light when I first turn it on, nothing else illuminates- it's completely dark at night.
I went through the drivers manual, and replaced the fuse on anything that looked like it dealt with electricit both in the fuse box next to the glove department, and switched a few of the few fuses in the bigger fuse box under the hood into each other's spot (green only where another green was- I didn't modify the layout)
Still, only the hibeams work (I get the blue light too signifying it)
I do have some new bulbs for the headlights- bought them before this happened for a just in case in the future- but as I flipped though the haynes repair manual- it says only one kind of bulb goes in there (I do have the right one)- so replacing them isn't the issue- just making it work on both settings is the issue.
I am much more concerned about the headlight issue than the 12 volt plug (it's rusty in there- I will try to wipe it out a bit with rust remover in two days to see if it helps it unless someone screams no here- previous owner was nasty)
Oh yeah, back lights work great.

For the no low beams issue, it's probably a bad dimmer/turn signal switch on the steering column. The radio display automatically dims when the headlight switch is turned on. So since the display is dimming, we can rule out the headlight switch as the problem for that issue.
The no dash blinker lights is probably blown bulbs. Yes you have to remove the instrument cluster to change them.
For the dash and interior lights, it sounds like they're turned off. Grab the headlight switch **** and turn it to the left.
The 12V socket just sounds dirty. If you try cleaning it with something metallic you're likely going to blow the fuse. Maybe wait to clean this when you take out the instrument cluster. Since the plastic trim has to come off first, you'll have access to the back of the 12V socket. Pull off the power wires, then you can clean it real good once it's dead. You can also check for power on the wires while they're disconnected. Keep in mind that the 12V socket wires are dead when the key is off.
