need advice on 96 dodge van
my van started dying while i would slow down to stop then start right back up but its gotten worse and has backfired a few times im a girl with little money need advice as to what it may be thanks
Out of the Haynes book for stalling reads:
1 idle speed incorrect
2 fuel filter clogged ( inside gas tank
)
3 choke not operating properly
4 damaged or wet distributor cap and wires
5 emission system components faulty
6 faulty or incorrectly gapped spark plugs
7 vacuum leak at the fuel injection system, intake manifold, or vacuum hoses
It's a start

Try the above first and if not any of them then if your tranny is a four speed automatic then another possible problem could be the TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) not disengaging at idle speeds. If it is the problem then I would have a shop repair it.
How many miles on the van?
How long since it's had a tune up?
Before you do anything else, or spend any money clean the IAC valve. Follow the instruction in this thread, it's very helpful.
