Default A/C Off switch

Repaired my a/c yesterday. Everything is working great. Getting it ready for the summer. Here's the problem. It,s still cold here and when I want to put heat through my vents instead of the floor, it turns my a/c compressor on with my electric fan. Shouldn't there be an a/c off button for this. Am I missing something here? Do I need to install one? If so, anyone know where to hook up the switch wiring? I was gonna go to the yard and get a switch from something. Thanks for your replies

Since you have a 96 when you push the "Norm" button then pull the button back out, that will turn off the AC compressor and just leave the air coming through the vents. I do this all the time. Now if it is real humid and the window's try to fog up I then just push the "Bi-Lev" button, (after I have run the "Defroster" cycle for a while, and run the AC compressor for that helps to remove more moisture from the air interring the van.

On our controllers the Norm and Bi-level are a push/pull button switch, the rest are push only.

Do you have separate vent, A/C, and MAX A/C selections on your switch?

I too have wondered if it was possible to turn the AC off, and never knew you could do this!

I assume you are referring to the heater controls that look like this:

Yes the Norm and Bi-level both will pull back once pushed in and turn off the AC compressor. Notice it says "vent push/pull" below the Norm Bi-level.

Also both the Norm and Bi-level buttons will have a tab at the top of them to help you pull them back once pushed, the other buttons do not have them.

M.A.Repair, you are the man. That is awesome news. I went to the yard today and found a switch I could use. I just got home and took my van engine cover off and was looking at how I was gonna hook this switch up. I started to get my wire cutters when something said go check the forum. And what a great surprise. Now all I have to do is go put my van back together. Thanks a million
