Default 01 Ram Van Door Latch

Last winter my door latch on drivers broke internally when I opened the door. The linkages and everything are still in tact and power lock, etc function perfect. But inside that door latch there must be a mechanism to hold the door unlocked because mine randomly locks itself by slipping down.

I have compared it to the passenger side and the linkages are all good, but where the key lock and power lock connect to seems loose inside the door latch.

I assume I need a new door latch, any places to look online, I have had a hard time getting any parts diagrams for this vehicle.

Thanks

I bought one for my passenger door from a local salvage yard. You might try www.car-part.com and type in the search information.

Also once I pulled out the unit and compared to the replacement I found that a piece was bent wrong and after I repaired it I kept it as a spare.

Select "Latches and Locks" for the part type.

Thanks, I have sent an email to someone that has one on there.

Are there any sources for new ones? Is this part the same between the different years? Is this straightforward to change out?

Thanks

It should interchange from 98 through 03. Change out was fairly simple. Pull the door panel. Unplug any electrical connectors that may be attached. Reach in and rotate the plastic holding clips for each rod connected to it and then pull the rod off of the unit. Then unbolt the latch from the door. Install in reverse.
