Question Removing heater and AC in '73 van

My A/C doesn't work and my heater core leaks. The van is a beater and I live in a temperate climate so I'm just going to remove everything related to the climate control. Any problems that I might come across if I just start taking stuff out *****-nilly? Do I have to do anything when I pull the AC off the engine besides get a different belt?

Thanks for any help. My van is really starting to come together, thanks in part to this forum.

I left my a/c compressor in place, and just removed all the other A/C related equipment. 1989 318. The way all my belt driven accessories are arranged, I could not just use a shorter belt, and needed the A/C compressor to act as a useless pulley. One day, I would like to replace it with another alternator for my auxiliary batteries, one whose voltage is not regulated by the ECM.

Bypassing the heater core should be cake.

Ahh, good to know about the compressor and belt. Thanks. I like that secondary alternator idea too. (BTW, thanks for suggesting Eternabond to fix my roof in another thread; that has worked out great)

I forgot to mention in my initial post, this is a 360ci engine.
