It's more likely that the fuel pump went bad and not the relay.

Default 98 ram van 1500 318 fule pump wont run you think relay??

my 98 ram van 1500 Last two times started gave me a long crank before starting but started then after getting home with no issues Went out to start & just cranks &cranks but wont start & i cant hear fule pump engaging I have One realy on fuse panel inside end of dash by driverside door & also one inside relay box next to battery under hood Both have similliar pin configs as the ones pictured with 30 ,87,87a,85 & 86 prongs Which one if any can i jump & which Pins to see if its stopping fule pump from running Cause if it was a bad fule pump wouldnt u think it would stopped while i was driving instead of running fine then just not starting next day? I dont see any relays on firewall Any input would be appreiceated Thanks

After having a new relay from NAPA burn up in 2 weeks I put a Lighted Switch on my dash and hooked the heavy relay wires to it. It works as a Kill Switch.

frank2y0 I've had a pump go like that. Pulled into a car wash and would not start after wash.

I got sick and tired from replacing mine so I put a SP switch on the dash. It works like a kill switch. Just remember to turn it off when you shut down or it will kill the battery.

Got an ASD relay off eBay for 5 bucks..after AutoZone said they didnt have it..or for that matter even know what it was. Turns out they do have it..they call it Decelerate Fuel Cut Off..but thats fine..got mine cheaper anyhow..isnt that nice? lol

DrBob.. I have been thinking of doing that too

I found my ASD relay in a black box mounted next to the battery. The black box had a code paper showing functions of all the relays. It looks like the smae exact relay in 4 different positions. I would guess an easy swap with another one in that box would give a clue if the relay was at fault???

Does the relay have to remain energized to keep the engine running?
