The PTU relay on my '89 is the top most relay. closest to the passenger side.

It is missing on mine. I get no codes. Find it and unhook it, see what happens.

I believe it is designed to unlock the Lock up torque converter when you take your foot completely off the gas at highway speeds.

First let me say I am no tranny expert.

?IF? the PTU relay is designed to unlock the torque converter at highway speed when there is no throttle applied, and for whatever reason it is not working, It ?MIGHT? be possible that your torque converter is staying locked up, or locking up in each gear as it downshifts.

I could see this, if possible, and occuring, stalling the engine as one slows down.

Go on the highway at 65 mph take your foot off the gas, and see if you can feel the TC unlock. Then put your foot back on it and see if it locks up again. Mine is pretty subtle on th unlock, but the lock up is less so.

Try it again with the relay removed, and see what happens. Unplug the battery to reset the Ecm and see of the code 37 is reset, or absent afterward.

But also follow the wires that lead down to the transmission, inspect them closely, remove the connections at the tranny, and inspect those.

ya i think first im going to unplug and clean some of the wires going into the tranny first, take it for a spin, and un hook the battery and check the code again.
