Default Welding on Steering Knuckle

Hello,

My jeeps brakes on the front brake calipers are not the floating type like our vans. Anyhow, where the shoes ride on the steering knuckle, it has worn deep notches and not allowing my brake shoes to slide easy, causing them to bind. So I was thinking of taking my stick welder and filling those notches and grind them smooth. Just not sure about the temperature from the welder being to hot and mess up my steering knuckles. Maybe cause it to crack. Any of you know if this would be a no no?

It's always a no-no to heat of any suspension or brake part. It destroys the heat temper and reduces the strength of the part. Try filling the notches with JB Weld and then grind that smooth.
