Default Hi , Please could someone advise me????

Hi , have no idea with this , but if someone could maybe point me in the right direction.
I have a Dodge '91 Ram Van 250 if thats it , cause theres many names on the van ,it says ram 250 , it says caravan , all i know is its like the one from the A team.
OK now, problem ive been having is , my oil pressure gets to around half way up when i start driving , but soon as i slow down or stop at a light or anywhere it drops down to where it cant anymore, and stays there , but this is everytime i drive now.
Ive checked virtually everything , only check engine code i get is something totally different , a # 21 which is my oxygen sensor if im correct. but nothing else .
Problem now is its starting to affect the transmission i think , cause only once oil pressure has dropped , its kinda jumping into gears.
please help anyone , ive already spent a fortune on so many other things .
Thank You Kindly.

Hello, if memory serves, I believe that the RAM was the cargo version of the caravan/voyager/town and country vehicle. Sometimes you see these as van conversions. Before I can give any advice at all, I need to know which engine and transmission you have. I had an 88 caravan that I bought really cheap a few years back because the previoius owner thought that the transmission was bad since the overdrive wasn't working. Turns out that the engine (this one was the 3.0) had a bad thermostat and since the water temperature never got above 170 or so the overdrive would not work. Cost a whole $8 to fix. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it is possible that the engine problem is in a way causing problems with your transmission and never show up as a code. Did you check the oil pressure sender? Try the simplest things first. The sender should be less than $30 at autozone. It is however, normal for any engine to have higher oil pressure at startup since the oil is cold but, since you said that it goes to 0 when driving should be of great concern. Does it make any noise? Anyway, let me know more about the symptoms and the size of the engine and trans and I just might have some better advice.

Good luck!

Brian

HI , and let me start by thanking you for getting back to me on this.
Ok i have checked the paper work to the vehicle and it goes by this :
1991 Dodge Truck-B250 LD VAN 5.2L 8cyl Fuel Injected , has 177777miles on the clock .
I bought it a little less than a year ago and soon after it started with the transmission , which used to jump into gear ,
so after taking it to various places , and still the same , i took it open myself to see what was up .
I changed my Gasket , drained all the fluid , did a few other minor things here and there and she has never run better , until this thing now with the oil pressure dropping down to Zero.
I have checked the pressure switch , but i really dont know much , so im going with the eye and it looks fine , i dont have gadgets and toys to check these things so , i wouldnt even know where and how.
Took me a week to find the damn Oxygen Sensor and now that i found it i cant get it out , cause i dont think i have something that size , and its in the most akward place that i can hardly get to it.
Reason i am mentioning alll this is , maybe all this is related to the problem im having .
I want you to know everythging that way i can get the best and correct way to going about this.
So yes only check engine codes i get are #12 which is the test begin code , then # 21 which my book says Oxygen Sensor , then # 55 which is end of test code if i am correct about any of this .
So if you see where the problem may be lying in all i have mentioned , please do let me know , ill tell you besides those few minor things , she has run excellent , and also in great shape , so not becuase of the minor problems , once i can get her running perfect i would love to sell her , so if theres anyone interested , e-mail me.
Thanx , waiting to hear from you .
Take care .
