1997 dodge ram van 5.2 w/ 46re trans //////van wont start w/ key/// but a screwdriver to jump the starter--starts right up // my question is how do i jump out the switch on the trans [[ there is a 3 prong connector where the gear selecter is on trans]] which of the 3 pins should i connect to see if its a faulty switch/// thanks

 

On the switch, in park or neutral there should be continuity from the center pin to ground. In reverse, there should be continuity between the outer two pins.

At the plug/harness, jumping the outer two pins should turn on the reverse lights (with the key on.) Jumping the center pin to ground will allow the starter to turn in any gear. <Be careful with that and make sure you're in park so the van doesn't take off on you.>
