Tranny slipping 36RH
Hello All,
My tranny has been messing up. I know for a fact that my vacuum motor that controls my max a/c door has a ruptured diaphragm which I think happened about two months ago or less. Well lately, my tranny has been slipping. When cold, it goes fine. But if I'm riding against the wind at 60mph for a bit, and come to a stop. I have to be easy on the gas taking off or it will ****** into first. And sometimes slip into second or third from there. If there's no stress driving the van. It shifts fine. Well tonight coming home, the traffic was slow paced. And I noticed my tranny slipping when starting from a stop. So while rolling in between stops, I shifted into N and shut the engine off and started it back up. The van shifted fine from there. Do you think the ruptured diaphragm could be causing this? Doesn't the tranny use vacuum in the shifting process? Thanks in advance.

The 36RH is a three speed only uses a throttle valve cable to tell it when to up and down shift the transmission. There are no electronic or vacuum controllers on this transmission.
1) If you have not done so do a fluid/filter change and adjust the bands.
2) Remove the internal engine cover and air cleaner. There is a cable from the transmission side that connects to the same arm that the throttle cable connects to. Take the trans cable and firmly push the end that is on the pin forward towards the radiator to remove it from the stud. Then let it slide back to where it wants to be neutral and see if it aligns right even with the mounting stud. If so reconnect it. If not just to the left and aft of the bracket the cable comes from you will see a white/cream piece of plastic, remove it and slide the cable housing until the alignment is made then slip the plastic piece back into its housing and reconnect the cable. Also might even do this before the alignment check look under the van on the driver side behind the front wheel and slide under towards the transmission and be sure that the other end of the cable is not frayed. If frayed then change it out. The cable will be a dealer only item.
