Tramsmission Fluid Change
I have a 2001(106k miles) 1500 with the 5.9ltr and want to change the transmission fluid/filter. Any recomendations other than the ATF+4? Also, as long as I have the pan dropped anything else I should be looking at?
Thanks/Jim

When the pan is down, one of the bands is adjustable, If you have a torque wrench and the right specs for the tranny.
Consider adding a drain plug to make future pan drops much easier and cleaner. Napa sells them for 6 dollars. Makes it easy to drop and replace 4 more quarts to further dilute old fluid with new.
The rubber gaskets /filter kit sold by autozone are better than the cork gaskets in my experience.
There is a magnet inside. Wipe off the fuzz, and consider using a stronger magnet if it feels weak.
I've had the pan bolts loosen up and then the gasket drips. Use a Q tip with some rubbing alcohol/ acetone or lacquer thinner to to remove the tranny fluid from the bolt receptacles and finger tighten all the bolts evenly before torquing them with a socket lightly and slowly. I even used a dab of loctite on the bolts once.
Your year Van comes standard with an additional transmission cooler. Consider putting one of these on the lines to the cooler for a little more protection.

While your underneath, see if you have any slop in the driveshaft U joints.
You might need a torx/star bit to unscrew the filter in the pan.
Also make sure the wiring leading to the tranny is not loose and chafing on the bell housing, and the electrical connectors are clean and tight.
