Default Rolls when in park. Not linkage.

'92 RamVan 250, 318 Magnum, 4 speed auto.

Problem:
The van rolls when it's in park.

Troubleshooting:
Following the book, i got underneath and adjusted the linkage.
The swivel lock is dead on and in park.

Thought I had it, but failed...
While I was down there I saw a spring hanging loose from some cable that was attached to a switch like contraption on the drivers side of the transmission. I believe it is a throttle cable. (It heads up towards the intake manifold)
I removed the cable linkage and spring at the transmission end, and moved the switch thing back and forth, I can feel it give me resistance in one spot, then goes past it into what I believe is park. (the spring is situated to pull opposite of the cable leading me to believe it is meant to be the resistance you would feel when you push the gas pedal.) I rigged up a new spring that pulls it back into place when the throttle is off. THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM ONCE. It rolled about 2 feet in park, and then caught and stayed. I tried it again, and alas, no such luck.

I drove it around the block and felt a difference in the resistance from the gas pedal (meaning the spring did what I thought it would, and the mystery cable was indeed the throttle cable.) but it still rolls when in park.

My next guess would be the park pawl is busted, but I have no idea what transmission I have, and if it's even equipped with a park pin.

I have two questions.

1)What do you think the problem is? (Is there a Park pawl on my tranny?)

2)Where can I find identification stamped on the tranny? I did what research I could with google, and I believe I have a A500 tranny, or some branch of the family, but I have no definite answer. I have the normal automatic 3 speed with an overdrive. If you know what my tranny is, great. If you know how I can visually verify a production number stamped on my personal transmission, even better.

I have an A-500 tranny. Like every other automatic transmission, in park, it cannot roll.

The pan is basically square with a corner cut off. The a 518 has a different shape with an indentation on one side of the pan. You can read off your VIN number to a dodge parts/service department and they will tell you which transmission your van left the factory with.

The throttle rod needs to be adjusted correctly. It tells the transmission how much throttle is being applied. Having this improperly adjusted is a good method for ruining the transmission. Check the connection/ linkages at the throttle body.

I cannot see how adjusting the throttle rod would effect the engagement of the parking pawl when in park.

A Haynes manual explains the proper procedures for adjusting the throttle rod. I used the drive adjust drive adjust method till the shift points were where I like them. Adjusting 1/8 inch at a time.
