Default 97 B2500 Van 5.9 Serpentine Belt Issue

I just replaced the tensioner but I am still getting the squeal. Is there a trick to the groove placement on each pulley? The tensioner was definitely bad. Any suggestions?

Just changed the belt and water pump on the van 5.2L. It squealed like a pig being chased for slaughter. I tried the belt dressing, but after the first 1-mile the squeal was back with a vengeance. the alignment looked fine for the pulleys. So, rather than finishing off the can belt dressing, I went with an old garage mechanic's tip. I had coated the outside part of the belt with lithium grease. After three good coatings (one coating for over night), the pig left. Only a mouse squeak exists on cold mornings. When it warmed up to above 74 this week all of the noise went away. The belt still looks brand new and the lithium grease is nowhere to be seen.

A bad belt tensioner will typically give a "clattering" sound, not a squeal.

If the tensioner is weak and not applying enough pressure, the belt slips and squeals.

Was just commenting on the sound the tensioner itself makes when it goes bad. In any event, he just replaced it so it's unlikely related to the squealing. Probably just a crappy belt.
