Smile '89 Dodge Ram B250 steering column needs replacing

Hi,

I need to replace the steering column in my 1989 Dodge Ram B250 van but I can't locate any columns here in the UK. The closest I've found so far is an '86 Dodge Ram in a breakers yard in Leicestershire, but it's not compatible - I believe I need to locate one from '87 to '89.

I have found an '88 steering column in America (on Ebay) but the seller only ships to US.

The main problem we have with locating one here in the UK is that most online sites don't recognise the van's registration number, and if I enter 'Dodge Ram' it assumes I have a pick-up truck. Does anyone know of any breakers yards (or similar) in the UK that would stock spares for a Dodge Ram B250 van? Or any advice on tracking one of them down, either here in the UK or abroad if we can find someone who will ship to the UK?

Also, does anyone know if I definitely have to have a steering column from an 87 - 89 Dodge Ram B250 van, or are there others that would also be compatible?

Any help in getting my beloved van back on the road would be very much appreciated. Thanks :-)

$160.90 (USD) and they now ship international. You didn't say if you have tilt or not, but this is a non-tilting column.

Cheers Alloro :-)
My current steering wheel does have tilt, but I've been told that the non-tilt one will work OK (I've never used the tilt so won't miss it).
I will check out the link you provided.
Thanks very much for your help.

Thanks again for your help Alloro - this is the correct part :-)
Not sure why this item didn't show up during my Google searches?
The shipping costs will double the cost of the item, but it is the only one we have located so far so I will most likely go for this one.

As I will be looking for various parts for my van over the coming months, I was wondering if anyone could help by suggesting anywhere in the UK that would sell spares for a Dodge Ram B250 van.

Any help is very much appreciated

You might be better off looking for another van and stripping it down for parts. Going that route will be significantly less expensive. Not only for the cost of the parts, but you avoid all shipping charges and taxes.

BTW, except for the suspension and axles, most all other parts are interchangeable between the B150, B250, and the B350 vans.

That's really useful to know, thanks Alloro.
Also, we will be keeping an eye out for a whole van to strip parts from.

Thanks again for your help :-)

Question

Strange question here (and apologies in advance if I sound really stupid) but are any other vans likely to be compatible for parts? For example the Chevy G20 which looks very similar to the Dodge Ram B250 from the outside?

Also, I've seen alot of spares for Dodge Ram pickups (rather than Dodge Ram vans) and wondered if their parts would be completely different or would some be compatible?

Thanks again, any help is always appreciated.

No you cannot use parts form a van made by anyone other than Dodge, regardless of appearance.

No the Ram pickup truck parts are not compatible.

OK, thanks Alloro. At least I know now where to look (and where not to look!).
