Just to keep those who are interested updated, i ordered a used ecm on ebay and got it in today. after installing it the mil came right back on within 3 seconds of starting, but a test drive showed that i now have normal speedo and shift function and no stalling at all. i took it to auto zone to find that i now have error code p0743 instead of the crazy too much exhaust pressure error. i had been messing with the connectors on the tranny so i am going to verify that the clutch solenoid is connected properly to see if that will go away. i am also going to drive it to work tomorrow for an extended highway drive test. cross your fingers for me please!

I would immediately stop using the van. Talk to landyacht318 here in this forum. He had bare wires that went to his TC which were shorting to ground. The short caused his PCM to blow. If this is what's happening to you, then you're at risk of blowing this new PCM whenever the key is on.

I did find a chafed/ burnt looking wire that went to my transmission, and only replaced my ECM after replacing it.

I had traced every single wire end to end, cleaned every connection, tested every sensor and needlessly replaced some sensors when my ECM was failing.

By nature it is always the last thing you check, but in my case it was the last possible thing there was left to check.

The ecm did not instantly blow, but kept getting worse for a period of 3 months where it would burp **** fart stumble and backfire upon start up, then like a switch was thrown, idle and drive perfectly. The duration of this period and it's frequency increased as time progressed.

thanks for all the info guys. i haven't been using the van for about 2 weeks do to these issues. but all my symptoms were getting worse over say the last 3-4 months, it just became undriveable in when my speedo started going nuts continually instead of intermittenly.
anyways i dropped the pan on the tranny and found that the connector to the torque converter lock up solenoid had actually broken (the plastic connector that goes through the wall of the trans) i do actually know when/how it got broken and will admit that i did it when trying to find a second speed sensor. but its all good now, and it seems like the van is running smoother and even shifting better now.
mil has stayed off too!
