Default question

I am in the process of installing a crate engine in my 2000 dodge ram van 1500, 3.9 v-6. I have a stupid question. What do I set my distributor at? I know I need to rotate the engine until I get to TDC on compression stroke of # 1 cylinder and then drop in the distributor so the rotor points to #1 plug wire. Is this the correct procedure? Does the computer automatically advance the timing? thanks

Initially that is the correct procedure. Once it's up and running you should bring it to the dealer. They have the correct tool to adjust the distributor to properly synch with the fuel injector timing.

Yes the PCM controls both spark timing and spark advance.
