Clear your codes to turn off the CEL before starting the engine the morning of the inspection. Then go for a 20 mile drive but DO NOT exceed 45 MPH. After the drive all of the readiness tests should be complete, well all except maybe one. But most states allow one or two readiness tests to be incomplete and still allow the inspection to take place. If you're all set with the readiness tests then you're all set to got to the inspection lane. Just don't go over 45 MPH.

To me this seems like a sincere waste of time and fuel.

If you know of another way to get the readiness test completed so you can head off to inspection, then I'm all ears.

Just a little levity -- easy does it. At 35-40 MPH it will only take about a half hour and about a gallon of fuel.

However, this will definitely be the contingency plan as I'm going to test the aforementioned modification to the Fuel Monitor Output Signal into the PCM. Our friends at the Michigan eLibrary who host the free online Chilton have provided me with a nice schematic of the circuit in question.

Results will be posted after I get around to making the mod, unless someone beats me to it. Circuit labeled as "C1" "C26" wire is LB/BK which I assume must be Light Blue/Black.

I don't have a color key.

Last night I ran my fuel down to about 1/4 tank remaining; my fuel light came ON. I reset my Check Engine Light to clear the random misfire codes. Drove around town about 10 miles, no CEL. Drove on highway and after about 5 miles the CEL came back ON.

Checked codes, random misfires cyls 1,3,5 & 4.

1/4 tank is 25%, my FSM said 15% or lower that would be about 1/8 tank of fuel. Might try that and see if it helps you pass emissions testing.

I agree that 1/4 tank is 25% according to the gauge, and I think when the Low Fuel light comes on there is only about 3-4 gals remaining which should equate to 1/8 tank of fuel -- about 15% or less.

Emissions testing can be passed by following Alloro's plan of resetting the CEL then driving 20 miles below 45 MPH just before testing -- so that is no longer a concern.

I just want the CEL off.
