46RE tranny questions
2001 1500 w5.9 & 122k - wife was driving and said the hot tranny light came on- check engine light on & PET Boys pulled a tranny code- local tranny shop said torque converter(labor/parts $1,000 to $2,500 based on what they see when they drop it/ said shifting all four gears but not OD) - will go to another tranny shop for a second opinion
I do some small repairs but will not touch the tranny so what questions do I need to ask to keep everyone honest. Or is it best at this point to just go with a rebuild? If a rebuild is best any sources out there I should call vs just going with someone local that rebuilds? Live in Vista,Ca.
Hope I was'nt to vague. Love the van and has been great so far. Last question is I was told I can keeping driving it as long as I stay off the highways.
Thanks/Jim
My 4 year old made me add the fans

I would drop the pan, change the screen and change the ATF with the correct +4 formulation approved by Mopar before even thinking about removing the transmission.
Don't know the exact statistic, but MANY transmissions that the "experts" say need rebuilt or replaced have simple problems like electronic controls or old fluid that are the cause of the trouble.
Take your time before spending that $2,500 -- it does not grow on trees!
