Default aftermarket cruise control

Dodge '01, 2500 maxi van with 5.2 & 4.10 rear end...
This is a heavy work van I am trying to make into a freeway cruiser for camping. I sure would like to add cruise onto the van as it does not have one at all. I have looked at aftermarket, but I cannot believe there is not just a part that I can purchase that will hook to the harness and give me cruise like they install at the factory.

If I have to go to aftermarket, any input? Any help is appreciated.

Have you tried Pick-A-Part?

if a pick a part is a boneyard, no I have not looked there... I was hoping someone might know if the wire hook up for the control mechinism is included and just not used... and if whatever controls the throttle, if it is a mechanical/vaccum linkage like they were years ago, or controlled thru the computer...

I have put several aftermarket Dana units on cars in the late '70's and 80's that used a vacuum device that pulled a chain tied to the throttle linkage, and controlled by a box that got signals from magnets mounted on the drive shaft. THese days I figured that the speed was controlled by the computer chip getting signals from a speed sensor.

Well again, I am asking if it is possible to add, through the simple additon of an OEM controller, the cruise control to a non-cruise equipped RAM VAN. I figure I might be able to find the controller in a boneyard... just want to know if the rest of the stuff to do the job is built-in.

thanks for the response

Have you asked the parts guy in a Dodge dealership? I would think that the dealership would be the first place to start. If you have your vin number they can look up your vehicle and give you a print out of everything on it. They can also tell you dodge ever sold an add on kit for cruise control for vehicles that came without it.

Default no luck

after trying to live without cruise control or SPEED control as Dodge wants to call it, I finally did visit the Dodge dealership today. He dug out a part number for a complete kit to add speed control to my '01 Ram 2500 van. But he also told me that it had been discontinued and a search of all dealerships showed none in stock anywhere...

The parts guy did give me a part number 82206980

I searched this and found factorychryslerparts.com did show this part in stock. However it only claims this fits an '09 Jeep Wrangler. The price is the same as he qouted $235.

So now my question is if this is the right part number. Has anyone fooled with their speed control enough to be able to recognize this part? How about installation difficulties?
Any input would be appreciated...
thx in advance

Default I have been researching cruise controls

I have found two aftermarket cruise controls on Amazon

one from Audiovox Audiovox CCS100 Universal Vacuum Cruise Control

and the other from Rostra
Rostra Universal Electronic Cruise Control 250-1223 with
Cruise Control Switch 250-3742

Has anyone had any experience with either of these units?

I'd think picking one from the junk yard would be the easy way to go. They use the same basic wire harness on so there should be all the plugs you need in place.
