Default Buying a 2002 Ram Van

Hey there, today is my first day on this forum and I searched it out because I found a 2002 Dodge Ram Van with 22,000 miles and I'm considering buying it. I've never owned one and don't know a whole lot about them, I'm looking for things to be aware of. Do they have any special or recurring issues to be aware of? I want to tow a pop-up camper, anybody know if the 5.2 is OK for that. Transmission? 3 speed seems different, are they reliable? Anything anyone has to offer would be appreciated thanks!

I'm new to the forum as well but I'm just curious. Is it a Ram Wagon or a Ram Van? Technically the Ram Wagons were the passenger variations and the Ram Vans were cargo vehicles. (Or at least this is my understanding...)
Also, what model is it? 1500, 2500 or 3500?

I think the 3-speed auto has a better reputation. It's been around for decades and I never had trouble with the two I've had.

Three speed does seem different, all the 5.2's I have seen that new had 4 speed auto. Should tow a pop up no problem.

The V6 came with the 3-speed and the 3-speed w/OD (4th) goes with the 5.2L & 5.9L V8 engines.

I have an '01 B2500 5.2 with 4.10 rear end. You can find the rear gear info on a tag under the hood. There might be three speeds indicated on the dash, but OD gives you a 4th gear that engages only above about 40MPH.

The 5.2 is a great engine. With 22,000 miles I would not worry much about the engine or tranny, just rust and rubber parts being old. That includes the rubber brake lines to the front disk brakes which should be changed out. Easy and cheap to do.
