8 bolt to 5 bolt hub/axle/wheels
hey all,
whilst browsing for new set of wheels I noticed some dodge rams vans of the same year are 5 bolt vs 8 bolt. hubs how is that possible? can i swap out the hub, axles, etc. for a 5 bolt setup as I have a 8 bolt hub...that would open up alot of wheel options out there
I have an extended 02 b3500...do the 5 bolt hubs exist in only specific models?

Not sure what you are proposing makes any sense, you will end up a 1/2 or lighter duty 3/4 ton van as the GVWR with be lowered to the capacity of the weakest part.
You could install 5 lug hubs on the front but I have no idea how many 1 ton suspension parts will bolt to 1/2ton (hubs pintles etc..)pieces.
Could be easy or more costly and complicated than you think, the rear axle may not accept 1/2 axle shafts which may mean replacing the rear end.
Maybe I am full of crap but to me sell your 3500 purchase a 1/2 or lower GVWR 3/4 ton van which would ride and handle better.
Have witnessed people begin odd projects such as this and in the end often ask themselfs what were they thinking.
What ever you do best of luck.

The B1500 SWB has the 5-lugs
The B2500 standard frame has the 5-lugs
The B2500 HD frame has the 8-lugs (built on the B3500 chassis)
The B3500 has the 8-lugs
From 1998-2003 there have been some interesting builds outside the "norm" for the Ram Vans. I have found a factory "bastard" B1500 SWB with a 5.9L and 8-lug rims in the new town I'm living in. How that happened is really beyond me. Otherwise, what I have mentioned above were the common builds one could obtain when ordering the Ram Van packages.
