Hi all...

I still have the intermittent stalling/hesitation/missing after a second or third start of the day. My wife noticed somthing strange. He purse was hot after sitting a top the carpeting on the floor just behind and to the left of the passengers seat. It was warm like it had been sitting on a heater vent.
I pick up my van today. I had the shop who fixed my tranny check out the fuel pump and they said it was OK -- nothing funny with it. Pressures were good all the time.
When I got home tonight, I thought I would look under the van at the newly rebuilt trans. It looked good, but I did notice the cat was really hot! Hot as in I could feel radational heat off of it from over a foot away. Another thing I have been noticing is that I am getting a whine, almost soundling like a supercharger, that starts about at 50MPH and doesnt go away until 70MPH. When it is whining, I can take my foot off the gas and it almost all goes away.
I'm thinking the cat is clogged. What do you all think? Also can we use an universal on it? It look like I can just cut it off and weld a new one on.

Thanks for the help!

I am also thinking since my cat is toast, the intake is probably leaking too...

Here's what you do. Go ahead and remove the front oxygen sensor, start the engine up and take your van for a drive. If you notice an improvement in the way your van drives, then you have got yourself a bad catalytic converter.

Alternatively, the more professional method is to have the exhaust backpressure tested. Anything over 2 psi means you have got something plugged down the line.

Did that --- so I went ahead and dove on in to the intake...
