It's a struggle, because if I just tooled around in the Ramvan locally, I would agree not to get the rebuild.

But this is our travel vehicle -- a Roadtrek camper van -- and I'd hate to be on a dirt road in the wilds of northern Nevada and have the transmission stop working. Not only would it cost me a rebuild, but the grief finding a qualified trans shop, a tow and a night or two at a motel. Know what I'm saying?

Yes I do. But since other things can also go wrong, you might be better off getting an aftermarket used car warranty on your van. The money it would cost to rebuild the tranny could go to the cost. Then if something goes wrong with the tranny, engine, suspension, etc. you're pretty much covered.
