Collapsed Lifter?
Hi all.
I just got done tearing down my motor again for the second time. It looks like I had a defective lifter. This was a Melling that I purchased of a disty on ebay. About 3 weeks ago I replaced all the lifters along with the pushords and installed new H/S 1.7 Rockers.
What happened to this? Is this a collapsed lifter?
Here is what it looks like holding it 'right side up'

As you can see it isn't pumped up...
Now for the werid part. Here is what it looks like 'upside down'

From this pic you can see the middle plunger/cylinder just slides down, but the ring around it stays stuck up in the lifter...
What a POS...another 7 hours of work...HOPEFULLY I can actually enjoy my van..
Thanks for listening all and helping me though these 'intimate' times with my van

It is so easy to take the lifter apart and look at the spring within. You can pull that little spring retainer clip out with a fingernail. The inner plunger should pullout and a spring will be inside.
Compare the spring to a lifter that does not look collapsed. But the push rod receptacle should always be tight against the retainer clip
