Help in the dark (codes)
Jersey is screwed , here no power or Internet for 12 days posting at a hot spot miles from home . I don't have the time to search the forum for an answer
engine light is on 2003 RamVan 1500 5.9 44k
0138 O2 sensor is there a way to test it. If so how? If not I read somewhere that you should buy one only from Dodge and not one of your local part stores. Is that true? Since it is getting colder it is starting to "ping" while cold it did not do this when it was warmer out. I this a O2 related problem?
0455 vapor recovery new gas cap did not work what's next to look at?
Thanx for any help, hopefully I will have power soon to see if there any replies

For the P0138, the true OEM manufacture for the Dodge Ram van from 1994-2003 is the Delphi product. Thus, either the Dodge dealer or the Delphi O2 front sensor from the auto parts store is the answer.
NEVER get a Bosch. It will run so-so with poor mpg and needs to be re-wired to your old connector.
As for the P0455 code, the emission hardware sits below the battery and the canisters sit under the van below the feet area outboard of the frame. Sometimes, the canister is just fine, the hoses got bad and leak. When I replaced my hoses, the cost was $0.29 per foot.

looked under the floor and saw a hose with black gunk on it ,guess that's the problem..as far as the O2 the man at the store asked if it was the front or rear that was bad..How am I to know or should I just buy both?
Oh well.. replaced the O2 sensor with a new Delphi and replaced a hose that looked wet by the filler neck. Reset the OBD everything was fine for 6 weeks. So I was due for my bi-annual MV inspection and breezed right through. Two days later the engine light came on again with the PO455 code and when I checked it again on the weekend the PO138 code was there again with it
Also it seem like it pings( with the slightest use of the gas) when it's cold and cold outside , I did not hear this in Sept-Nov unless it's something else.
I think there is a 6 month warranty
Thanx for the help last time.
