Default 98 v6 ram van thermostat replacement

I need to replace my theromstat on my 3.9 van. I either have it stuck open or my guy got overzealous when he replaced the radiator for me.

Besides removing the a/c and alternator brackets to get to it....what else should I be doing to get to the thermostat. Or I am I way offbase as to the location of the thermo?

thanks guys!

Dan

With that stuff removed you can get to the thermostat easily. Remember not to disconnect the A/C refrigerant lines -- just move the compressor to the side and get the compressor cradle out of there. Alternator, of course, has to come completely out. Don't forget to disconnect the battery before beginning your work.

I'd go ahead and replace that temperature sensor next to the gooseneck while I had all that stuff off.

Remove just the alternator, not the ac or the alternator/ac bracket. You might need to unmount the PCM but I doubt it. Don't forget to disconnect the battery first.

Default Why won' this damn van warm up????

OK over the summer I replaced the radiator and thermo.

Now that the cold weather is here...I can not for the life of me get this damn thing to warm up and stay warm enought to heat it.

I replaced the thermo again today to see if I had a faulty one sticking open.....that did not work.

Can anyone please tell me what I need to do to get this van to stay warm???

I am all out of ideas!!!

let me add some things......before I replaced the thermo today.....i was above the first mark on the temp gauge for normal operating temp. AFTER I replaced the thermo....I barely even hit operating temp. I put some cardboard in front of the radiator and it got the temp to climb a little.

The heat is not getting hot enough and gets cold when you don't have the rpms up.

WTF?

blackvan......I will keep an eye on it. The thermo that was in there was a 195. I just can't seem to get this damn thing warm and stay warm. I know its not the core cause I am getting heat when the RPMs are up but as soon as you let off the gas....the air gets cold.

I will pull the fender and see what is happeing. I also had some vac. issues which started my adventure with all of this.

The recirculation door only closes on MAX AC setting to recirculate the cab air and help cool down the cabin faster. Otherwise it stays open.

I tried it your way and it was going great until I tried to install the bolts to the housing. Lost both underneath the compressor. So I ended up removing the compresor (did not disconnect the lines), hung the compressor, removed the bracket and bam!! there were the bolts.

I really need to invest in a magnet.....
