instrument cluster stoped working.
I have a 2001 dodge 3500 van. The instrument cluster has stopped working and shows a bus were the miliage is. This started about a year ago with it only doing it when it was cold out side. I could let van warm up cut off and cluster would work again. You can run the self test and all works during the test but not after. I have removed cluster to see if it was not pluged in good but still does not work. Now the cluster does not read at all even if i let it warm up. does the pcm run the cluster? ever thing elese works in the van and runs really good. just no instruments.
having to us gps on my phone to tell how fast Im going but does not help with gas. I also saw the some of you are talking about broken soilder points on cluster could the be my problem and would the self test still work if it has broken soilder points or is it a pcm going bad. trying to find out before i spend $325.00 on a new pcm and it not fix it. any help would be greatful thank you.

The No Bus message means a loss communication between the cluster and the PCM. This could be due to a break in the wiring, a bad connector, a bad cluster, or a bad PCM. Usually if it were the PCM you would also have problems with the engine running correctly. Since turning the key off and on will sometimes clear the problem I believe the wiring is okay. This leaves you with a bad cluster.

No it does not. Those items are all direct wired bulbs and do not depend on any electronics to operate.
I have done the self test on the cluster and all works. expect when i drive it. Since I posted this I have had my van shut off when driving always happens when its cold and when I slow down it starts running rough and shuts off. this has never happened before. Now I wonder if its not the pcm starting to fail. what do think? Really hoping to find out whats wrong with this thing since we use it all the time.
That's more of a PCM issue.
