Remove the belt and spin the alternator. It should spin smooth and easily, if it does not then it's likely going bad.

Van has not made any noise in the past 10 days. I will order a new belt, tension and idle pulley. Hoping I can make it too the Spring before I have to change stuff. In the middle of a blizzard now trying to get my snow blower going. Thanks for all the advice.
