fuel pump lowering kit
not sure abotu this one, but i think i have heard there is a kit to lower my fuel pump in the tank
here is the background... when my tank gets to the halfway mark, it dies, and triggers the cel, with multiple misfires.... i have looked here, and a lot of people have said that due to the location of the pump/filter in the tank, it jsut can't get fuel at or below half a tank....
for me, that is 16 gallons that never goes anywhere..... i would love to be able to use mroe of it... as it is right now, i fill up every 2 days
a friend of mine said his friend had that same issue, and there was a lowering kit he got, to move the pickup lower down.....
anyone know about this?
i have a 1996 dodge b2500 3/4 ton van, with a v6 and a 3 speed automatic
it has a square tank behind the rear axle in between the frame/unibody rails

There is no such thing. Your problem is either the fuel pump motor is about to die on you, or the fuel pick-up tube has a crack in it at the 1/2 a tank level. In either case you need drop the tank and install a new fuel pump assembly.
i was jsut going off what my friend told me about in a pretty lengthy coversation.....
this fuel pump has been doing this for quite some time, so i don't think it is a pump dieing issue
i would look into the line inside of it having problems, or the fuel filter being clogged or bad..... it acts exactly like when my old, carbed, toyota truck would act liek when my fuel filter was dirty.....

On these pumps the fuel filter, fuel pump, sending unit, one way check valve, fuel pressure regulator are in the pump module assembly.
The issue you are describing is very common indictation of the fuel pump motor going out. The fuel acts like coolant to the little electric motor that work hard and produces heat. Once the pump gets weak and is not getting coated in fuel to keep cool then it acts up. Member Alloro pointed me in this direction almost 5 years ago due to an issue of my van. Did as he suggested and kept the van no lower than 1/2 tank and for the almost 2 years it ran fine, never did act up again. And though I changed the pump since then I still don't like going below half a tank, my wife will verify this, lol.

If you want to fix your issue for a lower price there are a few vendors (check eBay) that sell just the fuel pump, meaning only the metal pump that sits inside the plastic cage assembly of the fuel pump unit. Of course you have to take the entire thing apart, and you may even be required to solder a few wires in the process. Usually a new pickup screen is included with the pump only kit. Price for the kit is typically about $70 vs. $200+ for the entire unit assembly from Carter, Mopar or Airtex.
