Default Exhaust question

I'm looking at installing a cat-back exhaust system on my 99 Dodge Ram 1500 Van. I have the 5.2L engine. I've found a couple of systems out there but they state there there only for the 5.9L engine. Is there a difference between the two engines from the catalytic converter back?

TIA,
M. Wagner

FWIW When I was going through my catalytic converter crap, I thought about buying a full system.

I was able to find a guy at a local, git-r-done muffler shop, that did my cat and muffler for 1/2 the cost of just the cat back system alone - and I didn't have to do any of the work

Whatever you do make sure the muffler is designed to be quiet, especially if you have a cargo van without carpeting, insulation and paneling on the interior walls. A loud system can create an unbearable drumming echo inside the van that will make you wanna drive off a cliff.

For the time being I'm going to keep things as they are at least until it passes smog. Then I think having a muffler shop fabricate something is the best way to go money wise. Considering what I've seen for costs it isn't going to save me anything doing the labor myself. Thanks for all the feedback!

That is smart thinking. When you go to the exhaust shop tell them you want a big round cylindrical type muffler similar to OEM. To save money you can have them fab a side exit rather than a long pipe that goes all the way back, over the rear axle and out behind the rear wheel. You'll probably save enough money to afford a nice chrome tip on that side exit.
