$813 for new PCM? 2002 Dodge Ram 1500
Is this legit, or am I being screwed? A quick google search shows eBay listings all between 2-3 hundred. Does it need any special programming? My local Firestone is claiming this to be the price of the part.
I have played with some of these rebuilt PCM for Dodge, some times you get lucky and some times not ! Since the original vin is burned into to these, when they go to flash it, sometimes it wont take the new vin. I stopped using rebuilt PCM, for Dodge and go with new ines, I have never had one problem with them at all ! On the other hand, problems with rebuilt ones, either right out of the box or 6 months later. Then you have to send it back to where you got it and wait ? So your van is down anywhere from a min of a week to 3 weeks !
Now if its your daily driver your are out of luck niw, either get a ride or rent a car which both ways are a pain in the butt and cost you more time and money! All to save a couple of hundred dollars, when in the long run you are spending now when your van is down !
Now with a new Dodge PCM, 12/12 warranty, good at any Dodge dealer in the country and you are only down a day or two, but if your down for more then 24 hours then Dodge pays for a rental car for you !
So what do you do when your 1,000 miles from home and thst rebuilt.PCM goes ? Well you're out of luck now ! Have to spend more money to either get it fixed or tow it home ?
I am all for saving money and buying rebuilt stuff, but there are just some things I will not buy rebuilt !
Just think about your next vacation, the one you are driving your van, how messed up would it be if the rebuilt PCM goes and you have another one put in a rebuilt one, well it has to be ordered and you have to wait, oh spend more money on hotel that you didn't plan on ? Well by the time you're done, you just spent more money then what a new one would of been ?
Yes even with new ones can go and be bad out of the box, but if you travel there are Dodge Dealerships everywhere and your in and out !
I have been there and done it with rebuilt PCM for Dodge and this is how I feel about them !
Good luck if you get a rebuilt one ?
