Check engine light when more gas

Check engine light when more gas
The vehicle is a 1998 Dodge RAM van 3500, Engine type: 5.9L V8 OHV 16V.
When I put my foot down on the gas to pull away or drop down a gear to overtake the check engine light flashes and then if I don't lift the gas pedal after say 30 seconds it remains lit. It seems to light up when the revs are increased.
I took it to a mechanic, and the code indicates some misfiring on two cylinders when more giving more gas. Also he did notice that the engine was running very rich. On his computer I understood that he detected several spikes in the fuel intake reading. Suggesting that there is too much fuel flooding the engine and causing the cylinders to fail.
The mechanic doesn't seem to know a solution. So I thought I would start a thread to see if anyone here has had a similar problem.
So, what do you think?
