Default Over filled transmission pan gasket blow out

I changed my tyrant filter and fluid. I bought 5 quarts thinking I would only need 4 and maybe a small amount of the 5th quart. I miss read the dipstick because the fluid was hard to see on the dip stick. I kept flipping the dipstick and on the back side it appeared to only be at the tip. Got to 7-1/2 quarts before I saw it fully in the "ok" mark. * there are two humps/curves on the dipstick one appears to be one that prevents the etched side from being wiped clean by the sides of the dipstick tube. I think the opposite side not etched gets wiped clean on the way up the curved dipstick tube. So anyway I took a mile drive to a friends house and when I got our I noticed oil on the back side of the van. I looked under and saw a puddle, the pan gasket leaking a steady stream, and the gasket was pushed out all the way in one spot and almost all the way out in a few other spots. My buddy took me to the auto parts store and I bought another gasket. On the way back it saw a drip pattern leaving my driveway. It drove fine from home to where I first found the leak. After installing the new gasket and replacing fluid I salvaged with what was left in the pan (4qt) made it full and it drove fine back home. Both times I was checking the fluid while warm and in neutral with e-brake locked. Did I hurt my transmission? Did I get lucky that the gasket pushed out? I'll drive it tomorrow and let ya know but would like someone to speak up if this has happened to them and what eventually happened. I only realized about my error with the dipstick after thinking about it and looking at the dipstick very closely. Btw it was a rubber gasket both times except the first time I used black rtv and cured 24 hrs at 35-40 degree weather and when I made the repair I skipped the rtv and just bolted straight up. Btw it's a 1997 b2500 conversion van. The word is Transmission not tyrant lol and I used ATF +4

As long as the tranny shifts fine and you don't feel any slippage, then I think you can safely say that you dodged a bullet this time.

Good news for me I guess. I have driven the van several days and put 500 miles on it today with no transmission problems. Shifts well and still downshifts when I put the hammer down. No leaks with just the rubber gasket that I used skipping the black rtv. I was worried about this van having 280,000 plus miles on it and having totally replaced all the fluid because of the leaking out of the original fluid. Thanks for the reply alloro

Did the original have a solid silicone gasket with tension limiting grommets at the bolt holes? Those are meant to be re used. If so RTV on top of silicone would be inviting a slip. If neoprene, then NO RTV, Just put on dry. OR was factory gasket RTV alone? That would be my favorite, and provided everything was degreased properly RTV on it's own would never blow out. The correct RTV, such as Mopar has a hot oil sealing spec. as well, just in case there is a bit of oil on something you are assembling.
