Default Leaking dodge van

79 B 200 dodge van.

I am chasing leaks. I get a hasty leak right in the corer of the drivers toe board just to the left of the dimmer switch. I also seem to get water into the A Post. water may be getting into the a post and leaking in to the corner of the toe board and then out onto the floor.

I pulled the batter and seam sealed the corner of the body work that looked like it might be the part on the other side of that toe corner. That did not help. Rainstorm full soaked a turkish towel I had left in the drivers footwell lined up along the fender hump and footwell and extending up to that corner above the foot switch.

Anyone have this leak and find out where it came from?

PS: I have more leaks too but this one is quite bad.

TIA

Does the windshield seal look to be intact?

Yes. It looks really good. I have the dash top off and I can't see any leaks. I cant see any from the inside, you know it's mostly bare metal in the van.

I did the pass. door seal and ordered a driver side. That will help some with the water that collects on the foot step.

I have two suspects. The windshield gasket as you said and perhaps there is something under the cowl? If it's under the cowl chances are I wont be able to see it. So I will try masking tape around the rubber seal. If that makes a difference I will slather some RTV on it.

Take it to a "do it yourself" car wash and have a helper direct the spray right at and along all suspect seals (windshield , doors, cowl) while you sit inside and check for leaks. Done slowly with good light and some persistence, this method works for me every time.

You think the door seals are causing the water to leak into the A post, then under the seam seal and into the corner of the toe board? I can't see how the water can get into the A post from there. Have you experience with this?

I'd think a bad windshield seal. I'm not familiar with the B200 but I'd look for a drain tube(s) in the wiper cowl area and make sure its not clogged. If there is one, maybe run a straightened coat hanger through it.

thanks, I will check for drain tubes, although I don't remember any in this area, if the mech ever gets around to R and R the carb.

There may not be tubes there. Perhaps a channel or void in the corners. Somehow water is meant to drain out of there. Any buildup of dirt/dust/debris cloggin that design can give you issues.

Default chasing leak

OK,
I have installed two new door seals.
I have been progressively taping off parts and waiting for rain to check for leaks.
Taping the windshield did nothing.
So then I taped off the cowl and wiper posts. no help. A big rain soaked the towel I had stuffed up high in the forward part of A post.

Now I have taped of the seam between the fender and the cowl panel.
so far a small drizzle day didn't leak.
It's going to rain bigger tomorrow so we will see if that makes a difference.

I flooded the door at the seal area with a hose and though I got lots of water in the door, I didn't get any into the A post.

right now I am working on the theory that it is coming in from the driver side cowl. If this rain doesn't leak that would seem to be it.

Then I will pull the cowl and see if I can figure out path of entry. I sure wish it had been the windshield molding.

We'll see what happens with this rain storm.
