Default 46RH Dust Shield / Cover: Removal

Anybody know what's involved in removing the transmission dust/inspection cover/plate/shield off a 94 46RH mated to 5.9L?

I assume it's as simple as a few bolts and it drops down/off.

Does the starter have to be removed to get it off?

Thanks!

Yes the starter has to come down, then a couple of other bolts and you're all set.

Great, hope its as straightforward as it sounds. I've read that these dust covers in some cases can be a bear to get out, that the tranny wedges it in quite tight, some tranny to engine bolts need to come out while others loosened.

[pointless diatribe removed]

Just a heads up if anybody hears ticking coming from the bellhouse area, causes I've aggregated from my research could be..
  • Cracked (possibly hairline) or warped flexplate
  • Bad TC (broken sprag/vane/stator/lost counterweight/random slag)
  • TC bolts not tightened to spec
  • TC bolts too long (may've gotten bolts wrong/used diff bolts - see next issue)
  • Incorrect TC to Flexplate spacing (spacing may vary with reman TCs)
  • TC not seated properly/indexed properly (can damage pump as a result)
  • Trans to Engine bolt not tightened to spec
  • Hub on TC hitting crankshaft
  • starter spacing (loose or shims/washers may be needed if aftermarket flywheel was used)
  • various engine issues like spun rod bearing, bent rod, weak valve spring, worn rocker, sticking lifter
  • Leaking exhaust – manifold gasket leak
I'm sure there are others as well.
